Serial No.: 55656 (The 1952 year of manufacture determination is based on data from the Gossen Typewriter Serial Numbers page at TypewriterDatabase[dot]com.)
Keyboard: German QWERTZ (Suitable for other languages, including English.)
Typeface: Pica 2.5mm. (10 characters per inch)
Footprint: About 12 inches wide by 11 inches deep. The height (with the lid attached) is 2 7/16 inches.
Weight: 8 pounds 11 ounces (with lid)

Condition: Very good inside and out. The sand color crinkle-finish paint is all original; it has not been touched up. There are a few areas at the edges and corners of the shell and base where the paint has worn away due to normal usage. (See the provided pictures.) The branding and manufacturing info plates are original and in very good condition. The exterior surface and the type slugs have been cleaned, and the type segment has been flushed. The matching sand color lid—which attaches easily and securely—is also in very good condition.
Details: This is the second generation Gossen Tippa (Model A Mk. II) which was manufactured for about three years from late 1950 into 1953. In my opinion, it represents the mechanical engineering pinnacle of the Gossen Tippa line, due to the enhancements made following the launch of the first generation (Model A Mk. I) in 1948. While the Gossen Tippa B and Gossen Tippa Pilot models—which succeeded this one—are fine machines, I am partial to the angular, industrial look and very solid feel of this model.
This typewriter could be put to immediate everyday use. It types magnificently, with the keys moving smoothly and freely. Also included is a new black ribbon and a copy (not the original) of the user guide. An "ultra-portable," it is easy to carry with the handle incorporated into its snap-on lid. It fits nicely just about anywhere a laptop computer does!
All-in-all, this is a very nice, fully-functional, 71-year-old typewriter.
